Steelers vs. Colts Prediction
Will the Pittsburgh Steelers cover as a double-digit road favorite Sunday afternoon when they travel to Indianapolis to take on the Colts at 1:00 p.m. ET? Or is that too many points?
Who Oddsmakers Like: Pittsburgh. According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Steelers are now 10-point road favorites to beat the Colts, who opened as 9.5-point home underdogs. As for the total, the number hit the board at 43 but has been bet up two full points to 45.
Who the Public Likes: Pittsburgh. As of Sunday morning, over 60% of tickets were on the Steelers minus the points.
Who the Trends Like: The over. In the past five meetings between these two teams, the over cashed four times.
Who We Like: Indianapolis. You won’t make much money as a bettor if you’re constantly laying points on the road. The Steelers haven’t lived up to their explosive potential on offense yet and while they may have ironed things out over the bye week, I’m not willing to lay 10 points on them today to figure it out.
The Colts have a terrible defense but Ben Roethlisberger has been unable to take advantage of struggling opponents this season. The Steelers are scoring just 20.2 points per game against teams allowing more than 7.25 yards per pass attempt. As a result, most of the Steelers’ games on the road have been closer and low-scoring. (See the Detroit game on Sunday night before their bye, where the Steelers and Lions played to a 20-15 final.)
Jacoby Brissett has been more competitive than anyone would have thought when he was traded to Indianapolis from New England before the season. It’s unlikely that he moves the ball at will against a stingy Pittsburgh defense. That said, the Colts are 15-5-1 against the spread in their last 21 home games versus a team with a winning road record. I’ll take the points here.
