Pittsburgh Steelers DFS Spin
There are three main injury statuses to monitor ahead of Sunday’s game for the Steelers. Quarterback Kenny Pickett suffered a concussion on Sunday, was a limited practice participant on Wednesday, and is doubtful for the Carolina game. It will be either Mitchell Trubisky or Mason Rudolph at QB for the Steelers this weekend, as Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin didn’t officially name a starter on Friday. Neither running back Najee Harris nor tight end Pat Freiermuth practiced on Wednesday, but they’re both listed as probable for Sunday’s contest. Either one might be worth a flier in DFS.
Of Pittsburgh’s healthy skill players I’d look at wide receivers Diontae Johnson and George Pickens for DFS purposes. They both recorded over 75 receiving yards against Baltimore last week even though it was Mitchell Trubisky at quarterback for the vast majority of the game. There is serious risk if you play either of those wide receivers though because of Pittsburgh’s uncertain QB situation and Carolina’s pass defense, which ranks 10th in the NFL in opponent yards per pass attempt.
Carolina Panthers DFS Spin
The Carolina Panthers have an identity, and it’s centered around running the football. They ran for 223 yards as a team on the road against Seattle last weekend to secure a 30-24 win. Carolina running backs Chuba Hubbard and D’Onta Foreman both ran for 74 yards last weekend, and either of them would make a nice value play at running back against Pittsburgh this weekend.
If you need a defense, consider the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers rank in the top 15 in the NFL in both opponent yards per play and opponent points per play. On top of that, Pittsburgh will either be starting a Mason Rudolph or Mitchell Trubisky at QB and both players are severely limited in their skill sets. Carolina’s defense is also averaging 1.7 takeaways per game in their last 3 games, a figure that ranks seventh in the NFL. They seem like a lock to create some turnovers against Pittsburgh on Sunday.

Steelers vs. Panthers Prediction:
The 5-8 Carolina Panthers are one game out of the division lead in the NFC South. They trail the 6-7 Tampa Bay Buccaneers by one game, but already have a win over the Bucs and play them again in Week 17 on New Year’s Day. This season Carolina fired their head coach Matt Rhule, traded away their starting running back Christian McCaffrey, and waived their starting quarterback Baker Mayfield. Yet here they sit, on the precipice of making the playoffs. Carolina interim head coach Steve Wilks has gone 4-4 and deserves a lot of credit for keeping Carolina competitive when the team easily could have folded multiple times. I actually think the Panthers will eventually win the NFC South and make it to the playoffs. But in order to do that, they have to win this game; and I think they will, by more than a field goal.
