Heads or tails? Here’s a look at which side of the coin has won in recent Super Bowl 50 coin tosses.
With its 50/50 odds, the coin toss has become one of the most popular bets on Super Bowl Sunday. According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, heads and tails both have -105 odds, respectively, to win during the opening coin toss ahead of Super Bowl 50 between the Panthers and Broncos.
So how has each side of the coin fared in recent Super Bowls? Tails has won in each of the last two Super Bowls but that halted a five-game winning streak by heads dating back to Super Bowl 43 between the Steelers and the Cardinals. In the past 10 Super Bowls, heads has won six times while tails has won four times.
The NFC team has also won 16 of the last 18 coin flips heading into Super Bowl 50 while the team that has won the coin toss has gone on to win the game in four of the last six Super Bowls. Thus, there’s value in placing a wager on “Yes” for the prop bet, “Will the team that wins the coin toss also win the game?” Those odds are also -105.
