Super Bowl LI Odds 4/18/16 – Houston Texans to cut Brian Hoyer

Texans to cut Brian Hoyer

In a move that wasn’t too surprising, the Houston Texans have reportedly informed Brian Hoyer that they will release him.

ESPN’s Adam Caplan reports that Hoyer has been told he will be released. Hoyer was the starting quarterback for most of the 2015 season for the Texans and had a pretty solid season, throwing for 2,606 yards with 19 touchdowns and seven interceptions as Houston went on to win the AFC South. However, in his lone playoff game, Hoyer was just 15 of 34 passing for 136 yards with four interceptions and two fumbles.

The Texans signed Brock Osweiler in the offseason with plans for him to be the starter and they have Brandon Weeden available as the backup. Osweiler signed a 4-year deal worth $72 million with Houston. The fourth year quarterback has seen very limited action in his career. Last year was the first season he made any starts, going 170 of 275 passing for 1,967 yards with 10 touchdowns and six interceptions. Still, he got a sizable contract and is now the set starter in Houston.
