Super Bowl LII Odds: Eagles-Patriots Point Spread Drops Half-Point 1/23/18

Super Bowl LII Point Spread Drops

The point spread for Super Bowl LII between the Eagles and Patriots has dropped a half-point at several online and Vegas sports books.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Patriots are now 5-point favorites to beat the Eagles on Super Bowl Sunday next week. The point spread opened as high as 6 points at some online and Vegas sports books but the line dropped a half-point to 5.5 within the first couple of hours of its release and now it has dropped again.

Several Vegas sports books have seen a similar drop. At the Westgate Superbook the Pats are still -5.5 and it’s the same case at the MGM Mirage. But at William Hill the point spread has dropped just like it has at many online sports books, with Philly listed as only a 5-point underdog.

Bet Patriots vs. Eagles Super Bowl LII

The line movement coincides with how public bettors feel about the game. As of Tuesday morning, 56% of the betting tickets and 54% of the money wagered online for this game were both on the Eagles to cover the spread.

As for the total, the number has climbed to 48.5 at Bovada.lv and at William Hill but at Westgate and the MGM Mirage, the total remains at 47.5. For reference, the total opened at 47 before moving to 47.5 and then to 48 at some books.

The underdog has covered the spread in five of the last six meetings between these two teams while the over has cashed in four of the last five meetings. Philadelphia is a perfect 2-0 against the spread this postseason, with both wins coming in upset fashion. The Eagles were a 2.5-point underdog at kickoff of their Divisional Round game against the Falcons and then upset the Vikings as a 3-point dog in the NFC Championship Game.

The Patriots, meanwhile, covered the spread against the Titans as a double-digit favorite in the Divisional Round but failed to cover as an 8-point favorite versus the Jaguars in the AFC Championship Game. The over/under is 1-1 on both the Eagles and Patriots’ postseason games, respectively, with Atlanta-Philly playing under the total but Minnesota-Philly cashing the over. Tennessee-New England went over but Jacksonville-New England stayed just under.
