Houston Texans DFS Spin
Houston will be without three defensive starters against Jacksonville on Sunday. Texans middle linebacker Denzel Perryman is out with a hand injury, safety Jalen Pitre is out with a bruised lung, and nickel back Tavierre Thomas will sit out with a broken hand.
On top of those absences, Houston left tackle Laremy Tunsil is questionable with a knee injury. Tunsil sat out last week and it’s unknown if he’ll suit up on Sunday.
Houston QB C.J. Stroud is probable with a right shoulder injury and Texans wide receiver Tank Dell is probable with a thigh injury. Both players will likely be key in how Houston fares this weekend.
Jacksonville Jaguars DFS Spin
Jacksonville starting wide receiver Zay Jones won’t play on Sunday. He’s nursing a knee injury. Jones popped up on DFS players’ radar due to his Week 1 performance against the Colts where he caught 5 passes for 55 yards and a touchdown in the Jaguars’ 31-21 road win.
Jaguars pass rusher Josh Allen was a limited participant in Friday’s practice, and he’s officially listed as questionable for Sunday’s game with a shoulder injury.
Jaguars right guard Brandon Scherff has been tending to a personal matter, but he’s listed as probable and is likely to be available to play for Jacksonville this weekend. Scherff and first-round pick Anton Harrison form the right side of the Jaguars’ offensive line and their performance could be key in stopping Houston edge rusher Will Anderson on Sunday.
Texans vs. Jaguars Betting Trends
Winless teams against the spread have gone 50-29-1 ATS since 2016. Houston is 0-2 ATS this year.
Jacksonville quarterback Trevor Lawrence is 16-22 ATS in his career.
Jacksonville head coach Doug Pederson is 30-38 ATS in September through November and 24-30 ATS as a favorite in his career.
Texans vs. Jaguars Prediction:
This might seem shocking, but the Texans have owned this AFC South rivalry in the past 5 years. Houston is 9-1 straight up in their last 10 games against Jacksonville and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 against the Jaguars. Going back even further, from 2011 until now, the Texans are 20-5 straight up against the Jaguars. I like the fact that Houston hasn’t covered a game yet, as the oddsmakers typically tilt the line a few points away from that team to make it easier for them to cover when that is the case. I think new Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans and new QB C.J. Stroud will start to show some promise in the early part of the season and the Jaguars will be their first casualty. I’ll take the undervalued Texans and the points on the road in this one.
