Three NFL Trades That Might Happen

The NFL trade deadline is rapidly approaching and we’ve already seen deals go down. Which other players might get traded?

Three trades that already happened:

Jimmy Garoppolo to the 49ers

Kyle Shanahan now has his quarterback in the former second-round pick Garoppolo. The Niners parted with a 2018 second-round pick to acquire Garoppolo, who won’t start on Sunday versus the Cardinals, who are favored on the road versus San Francisco. Rookie C.J. Beathard has been a disaster, but Garoppolo needs to learn at least part of Shanahan’s offense before he’s ready to step in. The Patriots have now traded both of Tom Brady’s backups, as Garoppolo lands in Santa Clara after Jacoby Brissett was dealt to Indianapolis earlier in the year.

Jay Ajayi to the Dolphins

Miami head coach Adam Gase isn’t f%&king around, apparently. Gase took a shot at Ajayi following the Dolphins’ 40-0 loss to the Ravens last Thursday night saying, “We’ve got to stop trying to hit home runs all the time…it’s on the running back. Do your job. It’s not hard to do.” Clearly soured on the 24-year-old former fifth-round pick, Gase traded Ajayi to the Eagles where he’ll share a backfield with LaGarrette Blount. The Eagles are banged-up along their offensive line, but this is still a good landing spot for Ajayi, who was acquired for a fourth-round pick.

Duane Brown to the Seahawks

This was a great pick-up for Seattle, which has had massive issues alone its offensive line. The Seahawks acquired Brown from the Texans in exchange for cornerback Jeremy Lane, a 2018 fifth-round pick, as well as a 2019 second-round selection. Brown was ironically just in Seattle, where he played his first game for the Texans following a seven-week holdout. He played all but three snaps as the Texans nearly upset the Seahawks as a 6.5-point road underdog. Brown had been holding out for a new contract, so it will be interesting to see if the Seahawks give him one.

Three trades that could still happen:

Colts’ Cornerback Vontae Davis

ESPN’s Adam Schefter expects the Colts to trade Davis before Tuesday’s deadline. The cornerback is in the final year of his deal and the Colts need a massive rebuild. It makes sense to move Davis, who has been slowed by injuries over the last couple of years, but who is still a quality corner. There is no shortage of NFL teams in need of defensive back help. Perhaps he makes sense for a team like the Buccaneers, who are hurting at corner with the Brent Grimes injury.

Dolphins wide receiver Jarvis Landry

Gase might not be done shaking up his offense. The Miami Herald’s Armando Salguero reports the Dolphins are shopping Landry ahead of Tuesday’s deadline. After moving Ajayi to the Eagles, they could move Landry in the final year of his deal and get compensation for him before he reaches free agency. The Bills, Jets, Giants, Ravens, Titans, Bears and 49ers are all receiver-needy teams.

Colts receiver T.Y. Hilton

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports the Colts are getting “several calls” from teams interested in trading for Hilton. That said, Mort adds that “it would take something big” to get Hilton. But as previously noted, Indianapolis needs a major overhaul and if the Colts can get something of significance for Hilton, a deal makes sense.
