3 Teams on Upset Alert in NFL Week 16
Each week we peruse the NFL odds board and choose three live underdogs with upset on their minds.
Below we have identified several sharp plays so you can bury your bookmaker and bring home the cash!
Detroit Lions vs. Atlanta Falcons
Sunday, December 26th, 1:00 pm ET at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta, GA
The Falcons were just whacked around, 31-13, by the 49ers and now stand at 6-8 with three games remaining on their regular-season slate. They have yet to lay more than three points all season but the oddsmakers have installed them as between 5 ½ and 6-point home chalk on Sunday. How do you like that?!
Well, we love it because that means we can get the Lions plus six points against a team that doesn’t win all that often but when they do, they have yet to blow anyone out. However, the line is high because Detroit’s starting quarterback, Jared Goff, may be sidelined due to COVID. If so, that means backup Tim Boyle will take over.
But that’s okay with us because the Lions’ defense has been playing much better and they should dominate a weak Atlanta offensive line. This game should be close either way but if we get the big head start and Goff does play then it’s bonus time for us.
Upset Alert: Lions +6 (-115) or +210 on the moneyline at Bovada
Los Angeles Rams vs. Minnesota Vikings
Sunday, December 26th, 1:00 pm ET at U.S. Bank Stadium, Minneapolis, MN
The Rams are fresh off a 20-10 victory over the Seahawks and when we say fresh, we mean fresh. Unfortunately for LA, they had to play on Tuesday night which means their week is short, to say the least, as they must travel to Minnesota to meet a solid Vikings’ squad.
Minnesota could be the best .500 team in the league and is carrying a modest two-game winning streak as they welcome the Rams to Minneapolis. Naturally, the Vikings will be tested by the big arm of Matthew Stafford, but this could be the week in which anything that could go wrong, does go wrong for the Rams. They will not only be gassed by the short week but could be looking ahead to their date with the Ravens in Baltimore next week.
The Vikings own a very balanced attack, ranked 10th in both rushing and passing yards and averaging 25.8 points per game which places them 12th in the league. Let’s grab the field goal head start in what should be a bad spot for the Rams and a very good spot for the Vikes. Speaking of making money, don’t forget to check out BMR’s Week 16 parlay!

Chicago Bears vs. Seattle Seahawks
Sunday, December 26th, 4:05 pm ET at Lumen Field, Seattle, WA
The Seahawks are in the identical position as the Rams after they were defeated, 20-10, in their Tuesday evening affair. Perhaps identical is not quite accurate, as the Seahawks, unlike the Rams, do not have to travel for this Sunday afternoon showdown with the Bears.
The Seahawks will be included in many bettors’ NFL picks this week because fading the Bears has become somewhat of a trend. Chicago has failed to cover in their last five games and eight of their last nine. It’s been free money if you’ve been on the other side. But even a freight train stops and so too will this streak. The Bears’ offense has been stuck in neutral, but their defense has been playing better.
Factor in that the Seahawks cannot seem to reestablish their mojo from before Russell Wilson broke his finger and while the offense continues to flash glimpses of brilliance, overall, it has been disappointing. We won’t go so far as to say Chicago will win this one outright, but we will say that they will never have a better chance than to take down an opponent working on a week as short as the one the Seahawks are enduring.
Upset Alert: Bears +6 ½ (-108) or +230 on the moneyline at Heritage
