Minnesota Vikings DFS Spin
The Vikings traded for Lions tight end T.J. Hockenson at the trade deadline this past week. Hockenson is having a good season (395 receiving yards, 3 touchdowns, 15.2 yards per catch) but it may take a week or two before he’s fully integrated into the Vikings’ offense.
Minnesota quarterback Kirk Cousins is coming off one of his better games of the season last weekend as the Vikings toppled the Cardinals 34-26. In that game Cousins threw for 232 yards and 2 touchdowns, while also running for 22 yards and a touchdown. He may be in for a big day in a revenge game against his former team.
Vikings receivers Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen could also have some value against the Commanders on Sunday. Washington traded cornerback William Jackson III to the Steelers at the deadline this past week, and the Commanders were ranked 22nd in the NFL in opponent yards per pass attempt before the trade.
Washington Commanders DFS Spin
Washington quarterback Taylor Heinicke might be a nice sleeper play, as he’ll be facing a Vikings defense that’s ranked 31st in the NFL in opponent yards per pass attempt. Heinicke threw for 279 yards and 1 touchdown while also running for a score in the Commanders’ 17-16 win over the Colts last weekend.
For skill players, I’d consider Washington’s Terry McLaurin, who is the clear-cut #1 wide receiver for the Commanders. He’s increased his catches and yardage total in each of the past two weeks, and McLaurin is a big play threat as well, averaging 16.8 yards per catch on the year. Washington’s Antonio Gibson could see more touches than usual on Sunday as Commanders’ running back J.D. McKissic has been ruled out with a neck injury. Gibson got 14 touches last week against the Colts, turning those into 77 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown. He could be a factor on Sunday.
Vikings vs. Commanders Betting Trends
Minnesota is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games after allowing fewer than 90 rushing yards in their previous game.
Washington is 1-4 ATS in 5 games against teams with a winning record.
Minnesota is 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games in Week 9.
Washington is 2-10 ATS in their last 12 games in Week 9.
Vikings vs. Commanders Prediction:
Minnesota has the second-best record in the NFC at 6-1. They are fifth in the NFL in average scoring margin (+4.1), fifth in yards per point (14.0), and third in yards per point margin (+4.6). They may have beaten some lesser teams by slim margins, but winning close games is a skill in my opinion, and it’s one that the Vikings have. Add on the fact that Kirk Cousins gets to face the team that refused to pay him and I like the Vikings to win and cover this game on the road.
