Vikings vs. Redskins Prediction
Fresh off their bye, will the Minnesota Vikings cover the spread as a small road favorite Sunday afternoon in D.C. when they visit the Washington Redskins at 1:00 p.m. ET?
Who Oddsmakers Like: Minnesota. According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Vikings are 2-point road favorites versus the Redskins, who opened as a 2.5-point home underdog. As for the total, the number currently sits at 40.5 points after it opened at 42.5.
Who the Public Likes: Washington. As of Sunday morning, nearly 60% of tickets are on the Redskins plus the points. Clearly public bettors are hopping on Washington’s bandwagon after the Redskins upset the Seahawks last Sunday in Seattle.
Who the Trends Like: Washington and the over. In the last five meetings between these two teams, the over is a perfect 5-0. The home team is also 4-0 at the betting window in the last four meetings between these two teams while the underdog has cashed in four of the last five meetings.
Who We Like: Minnesota. Despite pulling off their big upset a week ago, the Redskins have been a horrible bet. Their cover last week was their first in their last five games. They’re also just 1-5 against the spread in their last six home games, are 1-5 against the number in their last six games coming off a win, and are 3-12-3 at the betting window in their last 18 games after accumulating less than 250 total yards in their previous contest.
Washington is still banged-up along its offensive line, too. The team should get left tackle Trent Williams (knee) back after he missed several games, but tight end Jordan Reed (hamstring) is doubtful and both their guards – Shawn Lauvao and Brandon Scherff – are questionable.
Meanwhile, Minnesota is the most underrated and under-appreciated first-place team in the league. The Vikings have held four of their last five opponents to a season low or second-low in yardage. They’re also 28-8 against the spread in non-division games under head coach Mike Zimmer, including 9-1 against the spread in their last 10 games when their opponent is coming off a straight up win like the Redskins are.
