Manning’s AFC Championship Odds
Peyton Manning isn’t known for always being “clutch” in big playoff games. Can he lead the Denver Broncos to an AFC Championship against the New England Patriots today?
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, the Patriots are favored on the road in this game, as they are getting odds of -3 points against the Broncos. The over/under total for the contest has been set at 45 points. These two meet today at 3:05PM ET on CBS.
Manning has had a 2015 season to truly forget, but that could change with a second Super Bowl title. Manning threw for just 2,249 yards and 9 touchdowns during the regular season while also making 17 interceptions and completing under 60 percent of his passes for the Broncos (13-4, 8-8-1 ATS). Injuries played a role in his struggles and also caused him to sit out a large part of the second-half of the season. He returned to action in the season finale against the Chargers and was 5 of 9 passing for 69 yards to help Denver pick up a 27-20 win and lock home the top seed in the AFC. Denver elected to stick with him going into the playoffs where he went 21 of 37 for 222 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions in a 23-16 win over the Steelers.
It’s hard to know what to expect from Manning, as he clearly is still now the Peyton Manning we have grown accustomed to. Oddsmakers have listed his over/under for passing yards at 250.5 for today’s game and his over/under for passing touchdowns at 1.5. Since Manning has struggled, Denver has tried to put an emphasis on the run game and that was evident last week, as Denver had 33 rush attempts to 37 passes. The Patriots (13-4, 8-7-2 ATS) rank just 17th in the NFL in pass defense, allowing 240.8 yards per game through the air. Manning didn’t play when these two met during the regular season. Manning has had just three games with multiple touchdowns this season and only six games with over 250 yards.
