Tony Romo Next Team Prop Odds
Which team will Tony Romo play for when the 2017 NFL regular season begins? Oddsmakers have weighed in.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.ag, the Texans have the best odds to land Romo at 5/8. It makes sense that Houston will be interested in a quarterback this offseason, but whether or not the team has enough cap room flexibility to bring Romo in after handing Brock Osweiler $75 million last year is the question. Osweiler was a disaster in his first season with the Texans, who no doubt regret handing the former Bronco franchise quarterback money last year.
The Broncos have the next-best odds to land Romo at 3/1. They too make sense as a landing spot for Romo, especially when you consider that GM John Elway rolled the dice on an aging Peyton Manning in 2012. Manning was coming off a serious neck injury but Elway took the chance and Peyton helped lead the Broncos to two Super Bowls before retiring in 2016. Romo would be an upgrade over Trevor Siemian and could help mentor 2016 first-round pick Paxton Lynch, who may need another year or two before he’s ready to start.
Meanwhile, the Chiefs have odds of 10/1 to land Romo. Coach Andy Reid appears committed to Alex Smith, who still has two more years left on his contract. Smith has helped lead the Chiefs to the playoffs multiple times but has failed to get Kansas City past the Divisional round. For what it’s worth, GM John Dorsey also endorsed Smith as the team’s 2017 quarterback stating, “We’ve said all along he’s the starter.”

The Cowboys also have 12/1 odds to remain Romo for 2017. This seems unlikely given how Dak Prescott is now entrenched as the starter after helping to leading Dallas to the playoffs as a rookie last season. Still, if Romo is okay with a backup role, then the Cowboys would have a very expensive, yet experienced insurance policy in case Prescott was just a one-year wonder. That said, the smart money is on Jerry Jones trading Romo, who still wants to start.
Finally, the Bears and 49ers are both 15/1, respectively, to land Romo this offseason, while the Bills are 50/1. San Francisco (Colin Kaepernick), Chicago (Jay Cutler) and Buffalo (Tyrod Taylor) all appear ready to move on from their 2016 starting quarterbacks and some are connecting the dots between Romo and the Bears since he played collegially at Eastern Illinois.
