Will Tampa target Martin?
Doug Martin is having a strong year for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Will he continue to lead the Bucs tonight when they face the St. Louis Rams.
According to oddsmakers at MyBookie.ag, St. Louis is favored at home in this game, as the Rams are getting odds of -2.5 points against the Buccaneers. The over/under total for the game has been set at 41 points. These two meet tonight at 8:25PM ET on the NFL Network.
The Bucs (6-7, 7-6 against the spread) are still in the playoff mix despite losing two of their last three games. A big reason for Tampa’s success is Martin, who is second in the NFL in rushing this season with 1,214 yards. He also has five rushing touchdowns. Today, Martin could find himself in for another big game as he takes on the 22nd-ranked run defense in St. Louis (5-8, 5-7-1 ATS), which gives up 115.9 yards per game.
One aspect that the Rams have really struggled with this season is preventing backs from impacting the pass game. St. Louis has allowed 774 receiving yards to back in 2015, the most of any team. They have also given up 81 total catches and three touchdowns to backs this season. Martin has just 24 catches this season for 199 yards, but oddsmakers have listed him with an over/under of 2 catches tonight. He also has an over/under of 86.5 rushing yards. The Rams have allowed over 90 rushing yards in six straight games while Martin has over 90 yards in three of his last four games. Martin has six games with at least two receptions but given St. Louis’ struggles in that area, look for Tampa to target him more tonight.
