Gordon to keep struggling?
Melvin Gordon has had a forgettable rookie season. Will he finally breakout for the San Diego Chargers on Sunday when they take on the Kansas City Chiefs?
According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, the Chiefs are heavily favored at home in this game, as they are getting odds of -10.5 points against the Chargers. The over/under total for the game has been set at 45 points. These two meet today at 1PM ET on CBS.
The Chargers (3-9, 4-8 ATS) have had a rough season and the lack of production for the run game is probably a big reason why. San Diego ranks 30th in the NFL in rushing, averaging just 82.7 yards per game on the ground. Gordon is the leading rusher with 565 yards on 155 carries (3.6 ypc), but he has yet to find the end zone and has four fumbles lost this season. Despite that, Gordon is still getting his attempts, posting double-digit carries the last five games.
The Chargers collide with the Chiefs (7-5, 7-5 ATS), who are on a six-game win streak and come in with the eighth-ranked rush defense. KC is allowing just 96.2 yards per game on the ground. That spells more struggles for Gordon, who was held to just 37 yards on 15 carries when the two met in San Diego back on Nov. 22. Oddsmakers don’t expect much from Gordon either, as his over/under for rushing yards in today’s game is set at 50.5.
