Will the Lions’ Calvin Johnson have another quiet game vs. the 49ers?

Megatron to break out?

Calvin Johnson has been very silent in recent weeks. Will that continue when the Detroit Lions face the San Francisco 49ers today?

View NFL Odds

According to oddsmakers at MyBookie.ag, the Lions are heavily favored at home in this game, as they are getting odds of -10.5 points against the 49ers. The over/under total for the game has been set at 43 points. These two meet today at 1PM ET on FOX.

The Lions (5-9, 5-9 ATS) are coming off a win on the road in New Orleans last week, but Johnson hasn’t been a big part of the Detroit offense in recent weeks. The 9-year veteran receiver was named to another Pro Bowl this week and has 72 receptions for 1,000 yards with 7 touchdowns this year, but he has just two catches over the last two games. He has also only been targeted six times in the two games, with just one target in last week’s win.

In today’s game with the 49ers (4-10, 6-8 ATS), oddsmakers have listed Johnson with and over/under of 75.5 receiving yards and 5.5 receptions. San Francisco has been a mess for most of the season, ranking 26th in pass defense by allowing 261.7 yards per game. Johnson could be entering his final home game with the Lions, as there is a possibility he is let go in the offseason due to his sizable contract. Given that and his quiet performances the last two games, don’t be surprised to see Matthew Stafford target Johnson early and often to get Megatron in the mix right away.
