Yes, Peyton Manning will actually be an underdog in the Super Bowl

Peyton, Broncos open as underdogs for SB50

Assuming the point spread doesn’t jump the fence, Peyton Manning will be an underdog in the Super Bowl for the first time in his career.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, Manning and the Broncos opened as 4-point underdogs versus the Panthers for Super Bowl 50. Some sports books have kept the line at 4, while others have moved the number to Carolina -4.5.

When Manning went to his first Super Bowl in 2007, his Colts were 7-point favorites over the  Bears in Miami, FL. When he returned to the Super Bowl three years later (again in Miami), the Colts were 5-point favorites versus the Saints. And when he took the Broncos to Super Bowl XLVIII in East Rutherford, NJ, Denver was a 2.5-point favorite over the Seahawks.

Wagers are already flooding in on the Panthers to cover the spread in Super Bowl 50. Our NFL Public Betting Page shows that 79% of betting tickets are on Carolina after Cam Newton and Co. destroyed Arizona 49-15 as a 3-point home favorite in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday. The Panthers went an impressive 15-1 in the regular season and 11-5 against the spread, then won and covered in both of their playoff matchups to reach Super Bowl 50.
