ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) -Bills cornerback Terrence McGee worked out fully for a second straight practice Thursday and is expected to play Sunday, when Buffalo hosts the New York Jets.
McGee missed last week’s 38-7 loss at New England because of sore ribs, and his return is the first positive news for a banged-up defense that’s lost numerous players to injury, including three starters on season-ending injured reserve.
With McGee out and fellow starting cornerback Jason Webster (broken forearm) on IR, Buffalo was forced to start backups Ashton Youboty and Jabari Greer against the Patriots last weekend.
The Bills (0-3) list five players out for Sunday’s game, including linebacker Paul Posluszny (broken forearm) and reserve offensive lineman Jason Whittle (hamstring), who were both placed on IR this week.
Also out are linebackers Keith Ellison (high ankle sprain) and Coy Wire (sprained knee), and defensive end Ryan Denney (broken foot).
Quarterback J.P. Losman missed his second straight practice and is expected to miss up to two weeks after spraining his left knee last weekend. Third-round draft pick Trent Edwards will make his first career start Sunday.
Wire on Thursday said he’s progressing to the point where he could return for Buffalo’s game against Baltimore on Oct. 21, a week following the Bills’ bye.
Denney, who had a protective boot removed from his foot last week, and Ellison, who has begun jogging on his own, could also be back against Baltimore.
The Bills will welcome back defensive end Anthony Hargrove next week after he completes a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy.
