INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -Linebacker and special teamer Rocky Boiman re-signed with the Indianapolis Colts on Wednesday.
Boiman was an unrestricted free agent after spending last season as key special teams player for the Super Bowl champions. He was primarily a backup on defense and could earn more playing time this season since free agent Cato June, a former Pro Bowl linebacker, signed with Tampa Bay.
Boiman joined the Colts in September after being cut by the Dallas Cowboys. He started one game last season, finishing with 17 tackles, one forced fumble and one interception.
The former Notre Dame player was a fourth-round selection by Tennessee in the 2002 draft and had a career-high 55 tackles in 2003 when he moved into the starting lineup. He also intercepted two passes that season. But knee and calf injuries limited Boiman to seven games in 2004 and he lost his starting job.
