FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) -The Atlanta Falcons placed quarterback D.J. Shockley and receiver Jamin Elliott on injured reserve Thursday.
Shockley will have surgery next week after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during a preseason game against the Buffalo Bills. He also has a partially torn medial collateral ligament and a bone bruise.
Shockley was contending with Chris Redman to be the backup behind starter Joey Harrington. The Falcons are expected to pick up another quarterback after teams make their initial cuts.
Elliott, who was fighting for a spot on the roster, also went down in last Friday’s game with a season-ending knee injury. He was signed to the practice squad in 2006 and got into the final game of the season on special teams.
