SAN ANTONIO (AP) -A look at Dallas Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens’ day in training camp Sunday:
OUT OF ACTION: Owens missed the only workout because of tightness in his lower back. It was the first of the team’s 17 workouts in the Alamodome that T.O. didn’t come on the field. Owner Jerry Jones said Owens was getting treatment instead of standing around. Jones doesn’t consider the muscle stiffness serious. “It’s nothing structural. He just has a tight back,” Jones said.
WHEN WILL HE BE BACK?: Coach Wade Phillips said Owens was day to day. The coach didn’t know if T.O. would be back for either of two practices Monday or what his status for Thursday’s preseason opener was.
OPEN SLOT: With T.O. out, there was a visible gap in a line of players during pre-practice stretching. No one filled in the slot between guard Kyle Kosier and Sam Hurd where Owens would have been.
PATRICK’S TURN: Patrick Crayton and Sam Hurd were the wide receivers who lined up with the first-team offense with Owens and Terry Glenn, recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery, missing practice. The first play run in offensive drills was a reverse handoff to Crayton that often would have gone to Owens.
