SAN ANTONIO (AP) – A look at Dallas Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens’ day in training camp Monday:
JUST SORE: Owens missed practice for the second straight day. An MRI on Owens’ stiff back showed no problems, and confirmed what team officials had said: that he is only having spasms. Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said “there’s no alarm” and said the receiver is day to day.
OUT ROUTE: Owens has missed six of the team’s 19 workouts in training camp, the last three plus three more during a coach-ordered hiatus last week to rest his sore legs and hamstring. His attendance rate is still much better than last year, when he missed about half of camp and the first three preseason games because of a hamstring problem.
WILL HE PLAY? While Owens hasn’t practiced since Saturday, and the Cowboys have only one full workout left before playing their preseason opener, Phillips hasn’t ruled out the possibility of No. 81 playing. “No, he wants to play,” Phillips said.
