SAN ANTONIO (AP) – A look at Dallas Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens’ day in training camp Wednesday:
ADIOS ALAMODOME: Owens showed up for the final San Antonio practice wearing a Spider-Man mask, which he took off for the short walkthrough in preparation for Thursday night’s preseason opener at home against Indianapolis.
READY FOR ACTION: Despite back spasms that forced him to miss practice Sunday and Monday, Owens is expected to start against the Colts. He and the other starters aren’t expected to play long. “We’ll probably get maybe a series or so, a quarter at the most,” Owens said.
FINAL TALLY: Including the final walkthrough, Owens took part in 15 of 21 sessions in San Antonio. He missed three practices because of the back spasms this week and missed three workouts over two days last week when coach Wade Phillips sat him to rest his sore legs and hamstring. Last year in Oxnard, Calif., Owens missed 15 of 27 workouts because of a hamstring problem.
SOMETHING TO PROVE: Owens said he has a different comfort level in his second year with the Cowboys. “I think I know my position on this team. I know what I bring to this team. Whether it’s from some people’s perspective good or bad, I take that in stride. Being part of the Dallas Cowboys’ tradition is obviously special to me.”
His goal for 2007: “I want to come in here this year and obviously hush a lot of critics up, and we want to get to the Super Bowl.”
