Trial delayed in Georgia for Titans cornerback Pacman Jones

 

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -Tennessee Titans cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones’ trial in Georgia on a felony charge of obstruction has been delayed.
Jones, given a season-long suspension by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, was scheduled to appear in a Fayette County courtroom on May 14 stemming from a February 2006 incident.
A court clerk told The Associated Press on Wednesday there no longer is a trial date for the case.
Fayette County District Attorney Scott Ballard told The Tennessean newspaper the case won’t be heard until at least September.
“There has been no resolution to the case, and I guess we are in a holding pattern until the fall probably,” Ballard said. Messages left at Ballard’s office seeking comment Wednesday weren’t immediately returned.
Jones was arrested in Fayetteville, Ga., after getting into a physical argument with a patrolling police officer. Police said Jones threw a punch at an officer before he taken to the ground and handcuffed.
His attorney, Manny Arora, has said Jones was just sitting in his Bentley with his girlfriend outside her parents’ home when they were approached by the police officer. Arora did not return a message seeking comment Wednesday.
Ballard said the order to delay the trial was sealed by a judge.
Jones’ off-field conduct, which has included 10 incidents where he was interviewed by police, led to his NFL suspension announced earlier this month.
The most recent took place in Las Vegas during the NBA All-Star weekend. Las Vegas police have recommended felony and misdemeanor charges against Jones after a fight and shooting at a strip club that paralyzed one man.
The NFL suspension could be as short as 10 games if Jones meets the conditions set by the NFL and is cleared in the Georgia case, as well as the Las Vegas case, in which he has yet to be charged.
