Lightning downed at Islanders
Tampa Bay suffered a 5-2 defeat at New York last Friday night to drop to 6-5-2 on the season. After a scoreless first period, the Islanders scored first in the second period but the Lightning evened it up on a Yanni Gourde goal assisted by Kevin Shattenkirk. New York took the lead again later in the second and pushed its advantage to 4-1 in the third period. Tampa Bay cut it back to 4-2 with 1:57 remaining on a Kevin McDonagh goal assisted by Steven Stamkos and Ondrej Palat. The Islanders added an empty-net goal with 36 seconds remaining. Andrei Vasilevskiy surrendered four goals on 25 shots in the loss.
Sabres shut out at home
Buffalo suffered a 1-0 home defeat Saturday night against the Islanders to fall to 9-4-2 on the season. New York scored the game’s only goal 5:19 into the game and the score remained that way for the duration. Carter Hutton allowed one goal on 21 shots in the tough-luck defeat. Jack Eichel paced the Sabres offense with five shots on goal. Zemgus Girgensens and Jake McCabe each added three shots on goal.
