Cale Makar took a blindside hit to head in the third period and left Tuesday’s 2-1 overtime loss to the Penguins for about 10 minutes before returning, Evan Rawal of Colorado Hockey Now reports. Makar finished with two shots on goal, one hit and one blocked shot over 24:21 of ice time. No penalty was called on Pittsburgh’s Jeff Carter, and there’s no word if the NHL Department of Player Safety will look into it. Makar told Peter Baugh of The Athletic that officials said the two players simply ran into each other, although it was the type of hit the league wants to remove from the game. The Avalanche will monitor Makar heading into Thursday’s meeting with the Lightning in Tampa Bay.
Tampa Bay Lightning DFS SPIN
Nikita Kucherov logged a pair of assists in Tuesday’s 4-3 overtime loss to San Jose. Kucherov assisted on Brayden Point’s power-play tally in the first period before setting up Point again later in the frame. The two-assist performance extends Kucherov’s point streak to eight games. He’s tallied 13 points (three goals, 10 assists) in that span. The 29-year-old winger is up to 20 goals and 55 assists on the season. He’s on pace to top the 80-point mark for the fifth time in his career.
