Nathan MacKinnon set up a pair of goals in Tuesday’s 4-2 win over the New York Rangers. MacKinnon sped into the offensive zone, circled the net and fed the puck over to Mikko Rantanen who had an easy tap-in for the game’s first goal at the 12:18 mark of the first period. While on a power play, the 26-year-old found an open Cale Makar at the point who fired a wrist shot through traffic before the end of the frame. MacKinnon finished the game with a minus-1 rating, five shots on goal, and a block in 22:32 of ice time. He’s been one of the hottest forwards since the beginning of December and is riding an eight-game point streak. MacKinnon totals three goals and 20 assists in 16 games.

Juuse Saros stopped all 32 shots he faced in Sunday’s 1-0 win over the New York Rangers. Saros was given only a Philip Tomasino goal to work with on Sunday evening, but he didn’t end up needing more than that, putting together a high-pressure shutout to help the Preds win their fifth consecutive game. This was Saros’ second shutout of the season, also his second in his last five starts. A Tuesday matchup with the Flames shows next on Nashville’s schedule as they look to stay hot.
