Blackhawks Season Odds
Can the improve Chicago Blackhawks take the next step in 2008 and make a run at the postseason? Oddsmakers have established the Blackhawks’ odds to win the 2009 Stanley Cup at 18/1.
There’s a lot to like about the Hawks in 2008, including Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews improving as they head into year two of their young careers. Kane scored 72 points as a rookie and Toews finished with 54 in his first year.
Perhaps the biggest thing Chicago fans have to get excited about this year is the club’s signing of free agent defensemen Brian Campbell, who signed a $56.8 million contract this offseason and who amassed 62 points last season. The Blackhawks hope that Campbell will dramatically help their average defense.

Oddsmakers from online sports book SBG Global have listed the Blackhawks’ odds to win the 2009 Stanley Cup at 95/1. Bodog has Chicago at 18/1, while Sportsbook.com gives the Blackhawks a 25/1 shot.
It’s hard not to get exciting about the young Hawks’ potential, but expectations might want to be tempered a bit. While Kane and Toews are coming off of productive rookie seasons and should improve in their second year, there’s no guarantee of that. And this team will need defensemen Duncan Keith to reach another 30-plus season and for Campbell to immediately justify his big contract. Still, this team has not one, but two solid goalies in Cristobal Huet and Nikolai Khabibulin, as well as a young productive offense. Now might be a time to buy into the hype.
