Jordan Binnington stopped 30-of-33 shots during regulation and overtime in Tuesday’s 4-3 shootout win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Binnington gave up goals to Anthony Cirelli, Corey Perry and Erik Cernak over the first six minutes of the first period, quickly falling behind 3-0 on the scoreboard, but the offshoot of this early 3-0 deficit was that the Blues had all kinds of time to claw their way back into the game. Which they would do over the next two periods, courtesy of goals by Ryan O’Reilly, Logan Brown and Ivan Barbashev. And of course, those goals would have merely served cosmetic effect had it not been for Binnington tightening up to shut down the Lightning after Cernak’s goal. The 28-year-old netminder would blank Tampa Bay in the second, third and overtime periods to force shootout action. Despite his strong efforts down the stretch on Tuesday, Binnington has been mostly average of late, allowing at least three goals in seven of his last nine starts. The Blues will face the Lightning once more on Thursday, when they next takes to the ice.

Brian Elliott allowed three goals on 33 shots during regulation and overtime in Tuesday’s 4-3 shootout loss to the St. Louis Blues. Elliott was handed a 3-0 lead after the first period, but he was unable to hold that advantage, surrendering goals to Ryan O’Reilly and Logan Brown in the second period before allowing a game-tying goal to Ivan Barbashev early in the third period. The veteran netminder would rebound slightly with a scoreless overtime period before ultimately falling in shootout action. Through four starts this season, Elliott has now surrendered 13 total goals, giving up at least three goals in every one of his trips to the crease. The Lightning will have a chance for revenge in a couple of days, as they will be matching up with the Blues once more on Thursday.
