Bruins down Senators
Boston earned a 3-2 home victory over Ottawa Saturday night to improve to 42-17-9 on the season. After a scoreless first period, Brad Marchand gave the Bruins a 1-0 advantage midway through the second period with a power play goal. It was assisted by Torey Krug and Patrice Bergeron. The Senators tied it at 1-1 later in the period and it remained that way through 40 minutes. Ottawa grabbed a 2-1 lead in the third, but Boston evened it back up on a Chris Wagner goal with 11:13 remaining. It was assisted by Krug and Charlie McAvoy. David Krejci provided the game-winner with 45 seconds left with assists going to Danton Heinen and Matt Grzelcyk. Tuukka Rask made 17 saves on 19 shots in the win.
Penguins’ three-game win streak snapped
Pittsburgh lost by a count of 4-1 Saturday night at Columbus to drop to 36-23-9 on the season. The lone goal by the Penguins was scored with 13:21 left in the second period by Zach Aston-Reese to trim the deficit to 2-1. It was assisted by Evgeni Melkin and Phil Kessel. The Blue Jackets scored twice in the third period to put it away. Matt Murray surrendered three goals on 32 shots in the losing effort.
NHL Betting Trends
Boston
The Bruins are 4-0 in their last four when allowing two or less goals in the previous game. Boston is 4-1 in its last five road games.
Pittsburgh
The Penguins are 4-1 in their last five games. Pittsburgh is 25-9 in its last 34 Sunday games.
Prediction:
Both teams are on a back-to-back with travel, so lack of rest is even with both teams. With Boston being so hot right now and having the ability to slow down the potent Pittsburgh offense, it’s hard not to like the visitors as the small underdog. Though Rask won’t be in net, I trust backup Jaroslav Halak more than I do Penguins backup goalie Casey DeSmith. I’m betting on Boston to get it done again tonight.
