Jaroslav Halak allowed one goal in Friday’s 6-4 loss to the Buffalo Sabres. Halak entered the game in relief of Tuukka Rask after he allowed four goals on 28 shots. He only allowed one goal but it was a brutal showing of his puck-handling skills as Sam Reinhart slapped the puck off of his stick to make it 5-1 for the Sabres in the third period. Halak owns a 9-6-3 record with a 2.45 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage.

Evgeni Malkin (lower body) was on the ice for Friday’s practice. Malkin was sporting a non-contact jersey during the session and he didn’t take part in line rushes. “The fact that he’s practicing suggests he’s that much closer to a return to the lineup, and our guys are excited about that,” coach Mike Sullivan said. “… Everyone is well aware of how important he is to the team and the impact he can have on a game.” Sullivan added that Malkin’s status hasn’t changed and the Pittsburgh forward is continuing to go through the process of recovery. He hasn’t played since March 16 because of a lower-body injury.
