Vitek Vanecek stopped 28-of-32 shots in Saturday’s 8-4 win over the Montreal Canadiens. Vanecek might have technically picked up the win with a healthy four-goal cushion in his favor, but this one was a 4-3 game early in the third period. Opposing netminder Sam Montembeault was just bad, though, allowing Washington to eventually pull away. Vanecek has now surrendered three or more goals in three of his last four starts. Showing next on the schedule for Washington, a Monday meeting with the Avalanche.
