T.J. Oshie scored a clutch go-ahead goal in Tuesday’s 4-2 Game 1 win over the Florida Panthers. Just over two minutes after Evgeny Kuznetsov knotted up the scoreboard with a goal against Sergei Bobrovsky midway through the third period, Oshie came through in stunning style, playing his shot true off Nicklas Backstrom’s pass to put the Caps ahead by a goal. They would close out the final 10 minutes of regulation in tense, effective, survival mode. While Oshie is no longer consistently the offensive threat he might have been as a younger man, he showed that he can still rise to the moment. The Caps will have a chance to really make Florida sweat when they meet up for Game 2 on Thursday.
Florida Panthers DFS Spin
Sergei Bobrovsky allowed three goals on 37 shots in Tuesday’s Game 1 loss to the Washington Capitals. The Panthers might have won 14 more games than the Capitals during the regular season, but none of that mattered on Tuesday. Bobrovsky held a 2-1 lead into the third period — with only a Tom Wilson goal early in the first period scoring against him to that point — when Evgeny Kuznetsov and T.J. Oshie connected for goals to turn the scoreboard against Florida. Lars Eller would cash in on a late empty-net goal to provide the final margin of victory for Washington. Bobrovsky took the loss in Game 1 after accumulating a 39-7-3 record, 2.67 GAA and .913 save percentage across 54 appearances during the 2021-22 regular season. Bobrovsky holds a career GAA over 3.20 in the postseason (41 games), making Tuesday’s inaugural 2022 postseason showing about par for the veteran netminder. The Panthers will try to even up the series at 1-1 when these two outfits meet up for Game 2 on Thursday.
