Hawks’ opener could conflict with Cubs
CHICAGO, IL (The Spread) – Something Chicago sports fans haven’t had to concern themselves with in quite a while could come about later this year.
View 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs
As WGNTV.com recently noted, Major League Baseball announced its postseason schedule and the National League wild card game falls on October 7. That’s also the same night that defending Stanley Cup champion Blackhawks open their season at the United Center.
No problem, right?
Well as of this writing, the Cubs are currently three games up on the San Francisco Giants for the second wild card spot in the National League. That means if the playoffs were to start tomorrow, the Cubs would visit the Pirates in a one-game playoff for the right to advance to the NLDS. While a time for that one-game playoff has yet to be announced by MLB, the Giants and Pirates played in the wild card game last year with first pitch scheduled at 7:00PM CT – the same time the Blackhawks will open their season.
It’s a good problem to have and the potential issue is something Chicago fans don’t even want to think about with nothing guaranteed for the Cubs over these next two months. But it does make for an interesting dilemma for diehards of both the Cubs and Hawks.
