Coyotes Season Odds
The Phoenix Coyotes exceeded expectations last year under head coach Wayne Gretzky, but can they take the next step this year? Oddsmakers have established the Coyotes’ odds to win the 2009 Stanley Cup at 40/1.
Perhaps the biggest move the Coyotes made this offseason was trading for center Olli Joknen, who is coming off a 34-goal season. He’ll be joined by Shane Doan, who had 28 goals last year, as well as forward Peter Mueller, who racked up 22 goals in 2007.
Phoenix will also have the one of the better goal-tending situations in the Pacific Division as Ilya Bryzgalov returns between the pipes. Although he finished with a .920 save percentage, there’s a lot of pressure on Bryzgalov this year with less overall defensive depth.

Oddsmakers from online sports book SBG Global have listed the Coyotes’ odds to win the 2009 Stanley Cup at 40/1. Bodog has Phoenix at 40/1, while Sportsbook.com gives the Coyotes a 30/1 shot.
Some believe that the Coyotes are primed to make some noise this year not only in the division, but in the Western Conference, too. They have a tough road ahead of them playing in the same division as the Dallas Stars, San Jose Sharks and Anaheim Ducks, but Bryzgalov will keep them in most games. The Great One did a nice job pulling this team together last season and it’s not out of the question that he could make Phoenix a Cup contender this year. The Coyotes will need to overachieve on offense, defense and special teams, but it’s certainly not out of the realm of possibility that they make a postseason run in 2008.
