New Jersey Devils Fantasy Spin
Cory Schneider stopped 27 out of 30 shots in a 3-2 overtime loss against the Sharks on Thursday night. It was an overall solid effort by Schneider against the Sharks, who was perfect on 16 shots in the first and third periods. Both goals that the 33-year old allowed came in the middle frame; the first was a shot from the blue line that worked its way through some bodies on its way to the net and the second was off a cross-ice shorthanded one-timer. The overtime goal lightly resembled the shorthanded goal against, as two defenders converged on the puck carrier, leaving Logan Couture all alone at the side of the net for an easy goal. Schneider is now 1-0-1 and has allowed four goals on 58 shots since being summoned from the minors a week ago. Overall during the 2019-20 NHL campaign, the Boston College product owns a 1-6-2 record, a 4.08 goals-against average and an .868 save percentage.
Los Angeles Kings Fantasy Spin
Cal Petersen stopped 35 of the 36 shots he faced in a 2-1 win against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday. It was easily Petersen’s best performance of the season, as he had permitted 14 goals in his previous four starts combined. Given that Jonathan Quick has largely struggled, the Kings don’t have anything to lose by giving Petersen a good bulk of playing time down the stretch. Even so, Petersen is unproven, has a poor supporting cast, and will have to be more consistent before he warrants fantasy consideration.
