Stars Meet Flames in Calgary

The Dallas Stars are hoping to bounce back from a rare loss, but so far this season that hasn’t been a problem.
After having their three-game winning streak snapped, the Stars try to start a new run when they visit the Calgary Flames on Tuesday.
Dallas (11-3-0) allowed a power-play goal to Taylor Pyatt with 44.7 seconds in Monday’s 2-1 loss to the Vancouver Canucks, which dropped the Stars to 1-1 on their four-game road trip.
Oddsmakers have made Calgary +102 (NHL Odds) money line underdogs at home for tonights game, the over/under has been set at 5 total goals (View Sports Books).
“We aren’t going to win many games when you score one goal,” Stars coach Dave Tippett told dallasstars.com.
Eric Lindros scored the lone goal for the Stars – his third in the last three games – with Mike Modano assisting on the play. Lindros and Modano are tied for the team lead with 12 points apiece.
Dallas went 0-for-7 on the power play, continuing its recent struggles with the man advantage. Dallas has failed to convert a power-play opportunity in the last two games, and has capitalized on just 1 of 23 chances over the last four contests.
Despite the loss, the Stars still tied their best-ever start through 14 games. They have followed each of their previous two defeats with a three-game winning streak.
Dallas looks to begin another win streak Tuesday against a Calgary (4-7-2) club trying to win back-to-back games for the first time this season.
The Flames snapped a four-game losing streak Saturday, as Jarome Iginla scored a power-play goal with 4:27 remaining to lift Calgary to a 3-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues. Iginla has six goals and three assists in the last seven games. However, he has only six goals and eight assists in 35 career games against the Stars.
Calgary used goals from Matthew Lombardi and Byron Ritchie to take an early 2-0 lead, but allowed St. Louis to tie the score before Iginla’s game-winner.
“We had a good start, but the Blues have a lot of firepower and they fought back,” said Iginla, who leads the Flames in goals (8) and points (14). ”(Saturday), it was a matter of finding a way not to get upset that we lost a two-goal lead and find a way (to win).”
The Flames have won just twice in their last nine games. Calgary, which went 1-1-1 on its just-completed road trip, now plays four of its next five games at home, where it is 2-3-0 this season.
Flames goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff, who is 4-7-1 with a 2.77 goals-against average this season, has struggled against the Stars throughout his career. He is 1-6-1 with a 2.74 GAA in eight starts versus Dallas, his most losses against any opponent.
He’ll likely face Marty Turco, who is expected back in net after Mike Smith made 24 saves for Dallas in his third start of the season Monday. Turco is 9-2-0 with a 1.99 GAA overall this season, and 9-3 with two ties and a 1.63 GAA in 15 career starts against the Flames.
The Stars have won seven of the last eight matchups between the clubs, including three of four meetings with the Flames in 2005-06. All four games in last season’s series were decided by one goal.
