Staal deals assist on Sunday

Jordan Staal logged an assist, two shots on goal and two hits in Sunday’s 4-3 overtime win over the Penguins. Staal helped out on the second of Seth Jarvis’ two goals in the second period. It’s been six games since Staal’s last goal, but he has two assists over his last three contests. The veteran center is up to 16 points, 55 shots on net, 62 hits and a plus-5 rating over 40 outings this season. While he plays on the third line, he’s seen a bump in ice time lately at the expense of Jesperi Kotkaniemi.

Point logs power-play assist on two shots

Brayden Point logged a power-play assist, two shots on goal and a minus-2 rating in Sunday’s 4-1 loss to the Ducks. Point has a goal and five helpers over his last five games, with three of those assists coming on the power play. He’s still yet to be held off the scoresheet in consecutive contests this season. The 28-year-old center has 23 goals, 22 assists, 19 power-play points, 77 shots on net and a plus-2 rating over 33 appearances in a top-line role.

Hurricanes vs. Lightning Betting Prediction

Take Carolina. The Lightning have dropped four straight games entering play today. Three of those losses came against the Habs, Sharks and Ducks. In each of those three losses, Tampa Bay was heavily favored. The Lightning have been held to exactly one goal in each of their last three games and two or fewer goals in four consecutive contests. They’ve simply hit a rough patch in their play and until they can dig out of it, they’re fade material for bettors.
