New York Islanders Fantasy Spin
Semyon Varlamov will start against Colorado on Wednesday night. Varlamov posted a 32-save shutout win against the Avalanche on Jan. 6, but that game was at home and Wednesday’s match will be his first back in Colorado. It should be an emotional match for the former Avs netminder. Varlamov has lost his last two starts, but he played well in both outings. He has a 17-11-4 record this season with a 2.53 GAA and .918 save percentage in 37 appearances.
Colorado Avalanche Fantasy Spin
Pavel Francouz will be in goal for Wednesday’s contest against the New York Islanders. Francouz is coming off a 4-3 OT loss to Tampa Bay and he’ll get a second straight start, as Philipp Grubauer continues to recover from a lower-body injury. He has a 13-5-3 record this season with a .922 save percentage and 2.51 goals-against average in 23 appearances.
Our Prediction
The under has cashed in five of the last six meetings between these two teams in Colorado. The under is also 38-18-4 in the Islanders’ last 60 road games, is 31-15-5 in their last 51 games as a road underdog and is 43-18-3 in their last 64 games versus an opponent with a winning record. On the other side, the under is 6-1 in the Avalanche’s last seven games overall, is 5-2 in their last seven games when they’re a home favorite and is a perfect 6-0 in their last six games when they’re favored.
Wednesday NHL Prediction: Islanders/Avalanche UNDER 5.5
