Ilya Sorokin stopped 34-of-37 shots in Wednesday’s 6-3 win over the Vancouver Canucks. It looked like it was going to be an easy night for Sorokin after the Islanders jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first period. However, the Canucks made a valiant effort at attempting a comeback and fired everything they had at Sorokin. They managed to put three goals past the 26-year-old, however he quickly shut the door after allowing Vancouver’s third goal of the game by Luke Schenn. Sorokin owns a 14-8-5 record with a 2.34 goals-against average and .924 save percentage.

Edmonton Oilers DFS Spin

The Edmonton Oilers have named Jay Woodcroft as their new head coach. Woodcroft is replacing Dave Tippett, who has been relieved of his duties. Woodcroft spent seven seasons as an assistant coach with the San Jose Sharks, three seasons as an assistant coach with the Edmonton Oilers, and he was on his fourth campaign as head coach of the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors, so even if Woodcroft has never been a bench boss at the NHL level, he’s coming into this with plenty of experience. “He’s been on the bench in the National Hockey League as an assistant coach, he’s been in the room and in all those meetings, he’s now ran his own bench for four years, and he’s had a lot of success,” Oilers GM Ken Holland said. “I watch Bakersfield a lot on the computer, I’ve been down there live as well, and I like the way the team plays down there. They’re very detailed and that’s what I expect they’re going to bring up here.”
