Semyon Varlamov allowed three goals on 31 shots in Saturday’s 4-3 win against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Varlamov and the Islanders went down 3-2 in the third period when Jake Guentzel notched his fourth goal of the season at 3:19. Cal Clutterbuck leveled the score at 3-3 at 8:23 of the third, and the game appeared to be headed for overtime late in the game. However, Anders Lee notched the power-play goal at 17:16 of the final period to give the home side a much-needed victory. Varlamov improved to 4-2-1 with a 2.14 goals-against average and .921 save percentage in seven appearances this season. The Islanders are back at it on Monday night against the rival New York Rangers.
New York Rangers DFS Spin
Igor Shesterkin stopped 31 of 33 shots in Thursday’s 4-2 win over the Washington Capitals. Shesterkin got off to a very rocky start in 2021, but he’s now rattled off three wins in a row. He’s also allowed two goals or fewer in each of those three victories. The Rangers scored the first goal of the game (Ryan Strome) less than two minutes into regulation and they never looked back. The Russian netminder owns a 3-2-1 record with a 2.35 goals-against-average and a .913 save percentage this season.
Islanders vs. Rangers Prediction
The under is 3-1-1 in the last five meetings between these two teams and has cashed in five of the Rangers’ last seven home games. The under is also 5-1 in the Rangers’ last six games overall, is 9-2 in their last 11 games as a favorite and is 5-1 in their last six games overall.
