The Jets head to Columbus on Wednesday night where they’ll take on the Blue Jackets at 7:30 p.m. ET. With the Blue Jackets listed as heavy favorites, is there more value in the total than the side tonight for bettors?

Winnipeg Jets Fantasy Spin
Patrik Laine notched his 17th goal of the season in Tuesday’s 4-1 road win against the Carolina Hurricanes. Laine ended up with the team’s lone goal on helpers to Mark Scheifele and Kyle Connor at 6:26 of the first period, but that was as close as the visitors would get. He also took a game-high six shots on net while dishing out three hits. Laine has goals in back-to-back outings for the first time since Dec. 21-23 when he had three markers in a two-game span. He hasn’t lit the lamp in three games in a row during the regular season since Feb. 22-26 last season when he had a total of four goals in a three-game span. He’ll look to duplicate that feat Wednesday in Columbus.
Columbus Blue Jackets Fantasy Spin
Elvis Merzlikins has earned the second star of the week for the period ending Jan. 19. Merzlikins posted a 3-0-0 record with a 0.67 goals-against average, a .982 save percentage and two shutouts during that stretch. He become just the seventh rookie goaltender in the NHL’s modern era (since 1943-44) to post three shutouts in the span of four starts. Merzlikins has a mark of 8-2-0 with a .955 save percentage in his past 10 outings.
Betting Trends
Winnipeg
The Jets are 8-3 in the last 11 meetings between these two teams and are 5-1 in their last six trips to Columbus.
Columbus
The favorite has cashed in seven of the last 10 meetings between these two teams.
Our Prediction
The over has been highly profitable when these two teams get together, cashing in seven of the last eight meetings between these clubs. However, the Blue Jackets have been cashing under tickets so much that I’m more apt to ride Columbus’ recent trends. The under is 40-18-1 in the Blue Jackets’ last 59 home games, is 37-18-1 in their last 56 games overall and is 35-17-3 in their last 55 games when listed as a favorite (which Columbus is tonight). The under is 8-3-1 in the Jets’ last 12 games when listed as a road underdog (which Winnipeg is tonight), so I see this one falling short of the total and clearly other bettors feel the same, as the number opened at 6 but is now down to 5.5 at most books.
Wednesday NHL Prediction: Jets/Blue Jackets UNDER 5.5
