Byfuglien slap shot propels Jets
Winnipeg defenseman Dustin Byfuglien blasted a shot that beat Las Vegas goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury only a little over a minute into the first period of Game 1 and it set a tone for how the rest of the contest would go. It was Byfuglien’s fifth goal of the playoffs and he would latest add an assist. During the regular season, he tallied eight goals and 37 assists over 69 contests. The Jets added two more goals in the first period as Patrik Laine scored his fourth goal of the postseason, while Joel Armia scored his second at the 12:25 mark to make it 3-0. Las Vegas would add a goal less than a minute later by Brayden McNabb, but Winnipeg made it 4-1 midway through the second as Mark Scheifele scored his 12th goal of the playoffs. William Karlsson would score for the Golden Knights later in the period, but after a scoreless third period the game ended with the Jets winning 4-2. Connor Hellebuyck saved 19 of 21 shots to post the win. Fleury recorded 22 saves on 26 shots.
Carrier questionable for Game 2
The only player between the two squads whose status is in doubt tonight is Las Vegas left winger William Carrier, who is questionable with an upper body injury. He missed Game 1 of the series. The grind line player only had one goal and two assists in 37 regular season games. He has not produced a point in nine postseason contests. The only other two listed injuries are Golden Knights defenseman Clayton Stoner (abdominal) and Winnipeg defenseman Dmitry Kulikov (back), both of whom have been out long-term.
NHL Betting Trends
Las Vegas
The Golden Knights are 4-1 when their opponent allows two or less goals in their previous game. The over is 2-0-2 in the last four Las Vegas games when its opponent had allowed two or less goals in their last contest.
Winnipeg
The under is 3-0-1 in the last four Jets games vs. the Pacific Division. The under is 7-1-1 in the last nine Winnipeg home games.
Prediction:
The Jets are 37-9-2-0 at home this season, which is quite good. Las Vegas is 26-16-3-2 on the road, which is also good but not an elite winning percentage like what Winnipeg does on its home ice. The moneyline isn’t too steep for me to have a lot of interest in the hosts taking a 2-0 series lead. Let’s fire up the Jets bets.
