Although the Maple Leafs lost 2-1 on Wednesday, Auston Matthews felt Toronto had a good game. “I thought we really controlled the play for the most part of the game, especially that second period and, you know, sometimes you just run into a hot goalie and you have to tip your hat to him,” Matthews said. Goaltending absolutely played a huge role in the game, with the Maple Leafs outshooting the Coyotes 46-18. Coyotes goaltender Karel Vejmelka managed to stop 45 shots though to win the game. If the Maple Leafs keep playing like that, odds are they’ll be fine.

The St. Louis Blues are leading the league with 13 comeback victories. In particular, St. Louis is 6-2-1 in games where they’ve trailed after 20 minutes. To put that in perspective, they are the only team with an above .500 winning percentage in games where the team has trailed going into the first intermission. That’s part of the reason St. Louis ranks second in the Central Division with a 22-10-5 record. “You’re not always gonna get the lead,” Blues coach Craig Berube said. “It’s nice to get the lead. Things happen, and you know, you get bad bounces. Whatever it is. You gotta just stay with it and keep pushing. I think our guys are good at that.”
