Islanders hammered by Oilers
New York lost 5-2 at home Tuesday night against Edmonton to drop to 1-2-0 on the season. The Islanders opened the scoring at the 5:46 mark of the opening period on an Anthony Beauvillier shorthanded goal assisted by Leo Komarov. New York proceeded to give up five goals in a row before getting one back on a Matt Martin tally with 6:28 remaining in the game off assists from Noah Dobson and Casey Cizikas. Semyon Varlamov allowed four goals on 19 shots before being yanked from the game. Thomas Greiss stopped seven out of eight shots the rest of the way.
Hurricanes double up Panthers
Carolina rolled to a 6-3 victory Tuesday night at Florida to improve to 4-0-0 on the young season. Jordan Staal opened up the scoring 6:48 in on a goal assisted by Brock McGinn and Jake Gardiner. Teuvo Teravainen scored four-plus minutes later via a goal assisted by Haydn Fleury and Nino Niederreiter. Dougie Hamilton made it 3-0 with 4:23 remaining in the first with assists going to Andrei Svechnikov and Staal. Ryan Dzingel made it 4-0 with 1:46 to go in the first on a power play goal assisted by Teravainen and Svechnikov. Dzingel scored again early in the second period on assists courtesy of Martin Necas and Fleury to make it 5-0. The Panthers trimmed it all the way to 5-3 in the third period, but an insurance goal from Sebastian Aho off an assist by Jaccob Slavin with 1:19 left put it away. James Reimer made 47 saves on 50 shots in the winning effort.
NHL Betting Trends
New York
The Islanders are 5-2 in their last seven road games. New York is 2-12 in its last 14 games overall dating to last season.
Carolina
The Hurricanes are 7-0 in their last seven games versus the Metropolitan Division. Carolina is 23-8 in its last 31 home games.
Prediction:
Carolina is steamrolling teams with an excellent offensive effort so far and while the Islanders are defensive-minded, I think they give up at least three or four goals on the road and don’t usually have the offensive capabilities to keep up. The Hurricanes could be better in the defensive zone so far this season, but Reimer was great the other night and probable starter tonight Petr Mrazek is always capable of a strong effort in net.
