Wednesday NHL Opening Odds
(The Spread) – Six games fill the NHL schedule on Wednesday night, including three marquee matchups between 30-plus win teams.
If the playoffs were to start tonight, the Pittsburgh Penguins and San Jose Sharks would each have the No. 4 seed in their respect conferences. The two teams will square off tonight in what should be a well-played, low-scoring affair.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have made the Penguins +129 money line underdogs to beat the Sharks on Wednesday night. San Jose is currently –140 money line favorites to top Pittsburgh on the road.
The under is currently 5-0-1 in the last six meetings between the Sharks and Pens, which is why oddsmakers have decided to set the over/under at 5 goals. The home team is 7-1 in the last eight meetings between these two teams, but recent NHL trends show that the Sharks are 12-2-1 in their last 15 games against the Penguins.
Logan Couture leads San Jose with 24 goals, while Joe Thornton has a team-high 35 assists and Antti Niemi owns a 2.43 goals against average. For Pittsburgh, Sidney Crosby leads the team with 32 goals, while Kris Letang has a team-high 37 assists and Marc-Andre Fleury’s goals against average is currently 2.26.
In another marquee matchup on Wednesday night, the Anaheim Ducks are currently +111 money line underdogs against the visiting Los Angeles Kings, who are –120 on the money line. As of this writing, the odds have not been released for the Phoenix Coyotes-Tampa Bay Lightning game.
