Thursday NHL Opening Odds
(The Spread) – There seven games on the NHL schedule Thursday including a Western Conference battle between two elite teams in the Vancouver Canucks and the host San Jose Sharks.
Vancouver enters play Thursday with a record of 43-16-9 and a road mark of 20-9-4. San Jose comes in with a 39-22-6 overall record and is 18-11-3 at home. Play begins at 10:30PM EST.
Oddsmakers and online sports book Sportsbook.com have made the San Jose Sharks -125 favorites, while the over-under is set at 5.5. According to the latest trends, Vancouver is 30-35-3 on over-unders this season while San Jose is 31-34-2 on over-under. The Canucks average 3.2 goals per game and give up 2.3 per contest. The Sharks average 2.8 goals and give up 2.5.
San Jose has been hot as of late, winning nine of its past 10 games including a 3-2 victory at home Tuesday over Nashville. Vancouver is winners of three in a row, the last of which being a 4-3 victory Tuesday at Phoenix.
Daniel Sedin paces the Canucks offensively with 34 goals and 50 assists. Dany Heatley leads a balanced Sharks offensive with 22 goals and 33 assists.
In other NHL action, the Toronto Maple Leafs host the Philadelphia Flyers. Philadelphia is a -145 favorite and the over-under is 5.5. Florida hosts Ottawa with the Panthers being a -145 favorite, while the over-under is 5. The St. Louis Blues are at home to face the Montreal Canadiens. St. Louis is a -110 favorite and the over-under is set at 5.5.
