Friday NHL Opening Odds
(The Spread) -There are a total of five games on Friday’s NHL schedule including a Western Conference battle between the Columbus Blue Jackets and the host Calgary Flames.
Calgary 33-24-9) is currently in the eighth spot in the Western Conference with 75 points, while Columbus (31-25-7) is trying to get into the playoff picture as it has 69 points and has the benefit of having played three fewer games to date than the Flames. The two squads will meet tonight at 9:00PM EST in Calgary.
Oddsmakers and online sports book Sportsbook.com have made Calgary -165 favorites, while the over-under has been set at 5.5. According to the latest odds, Calgary is 6-5 versus Columbus over the last three seasons. Seven of the last 11 games in this series have gone under the total.
Calgary had won two in a row until Wednesday when it was upended 6-4 at Chicago. The Blue Jackets’ playoff push has stumbled as of late as they are losers of three straight including a 4-2 loss Thursday at Edmonton.
Rick Nash paces Columbus with 29 goals and 27 assists, while teammate R.J. Umberger has accounted for 20 goals and 28 assists. Calgary star Jarome Iginla has tallied 28 goals and 36 assists on the season.
Other NHL action Friday includes the Pittsburgh Penguins at the New Jersey Devils. The 7:00PM EST start sees the Devils as -170 favorites, while the over-under is 5.
