Anaheim is now 2-1-1 after Wednesday’s 3-2 home win over the Islanders, while Colorado is 3-1-1 after a 6-3 victory Wednesday at home against the Bruins. Anaheim won all three meetings last year by scores of 4-1, 2-1 and 5-1. The over-under was 1-1-1.
In their win Wednesday, the Ducks received goals from Andrew Cogliano along with Patrick Eaves and Rickard Rackell. Ryan Getzlaf and Josh Manson had two assists apiece. John Gibson turned away 39 shots to earn the win.
Colorado was led by Sven Andrighetto on Wednesday as he tallied two goals. Matt Duchene, Tyson Jost, Andrew Kerfoot and Nail Yakupov added one goal apiece. Gabriel Landeskog and Nathan McKinnon both had two assists. Semyon Varlamov made 20 saves to notch the win.
Colorado’s start might not be a fluke. After some disappointment last year in taking a major step backward, the Avs look to be back on trach with players such as McKinnon and Landeskog leading the charge. The Ducks are a veteran team that rarely beats themselves, but with the chemistry Colorado is finding in the early going it is a very tough fade.
