NHL Predictions: Can Flames topple host Avalanche? 2/28/18

Flames vs. Avalanche Pick

Are the Calgary Flames a strong bet on the road tonight when they play the Colorado Avalanche at 9:30PM ET?

ONLINE ODDS

According to oddsmakers at YouWager, the Avalanche are a -115 favorite to win on the moneyline. The Flames are a -105 underdog, while the total sits at 6 goals.

LINE MOVEMENT

Colorado opened as a -125 favorite before the line was bet down. The total started out at 5.5 before it moved to 6. At some books, you can find the Avs as low as a -110 favorite with the Flames at +100. The total appears to be at 6 everywhere with the juice tilted toward the under at most of them.

PUBLIC BETTING

As of Wednesday afternoon, 64 percent of bets have been placed on the Avalanche. Online wager info also shows that 51 percent of bets are siding with the over.

INJURY TO WATCH

Calgary left winger Micheal Ferland is questionable tonight with a lower body injury. Center Nick Shore is also questionable after being acquired in a trade. For Colorado, goalie Andrew Hammond is questionable with a brain injury but is unlikely to have played regardness. Defenseman Mark Alto is questionable after being acquired in a trade.

BETTING STRATEGY

Calgary has won five straight meetings in the series including twice this season, 3-2 in Colorado on Nov. 25 and 5-1 in Calgary on Feb. 24. I’m going to believe the streak ends tonight. Colorado will have its starting goaltender Semyon Varlamov in net, while the Flames will turn to backup David Rittich after losing 2-0 in Dallas last night. Colorado is due for a big offensive night and will be looking for revenge from its loss at Calgary only four days ago.
