NHL Predictions: Washington Capitals vs. Philadelphia Flyers 10/14/17

Capitals vs. Flyers Prediction

Can the Philadelphia Flyers pick up a big win over the Washington Capitals when they hold their home opener tonight at 7PM ET?

According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, this game is considered even, as the Flyers and Capitals are both being given odds of -110 to win. The over/under total is listed at 5.5 goals. The Capitals have won their last three against the Flyers. Tonight’s game takes place from the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The Flyers opened their season with four straight on the road and they went 2-2 with wins over the Ducks and Sharks. Philly is putting up and allowing 3.25 goals per game. Wayne Simmonds has four goals to lead the Flyers thus far while Jakub Voracek has six assists. Brian Elliott is 2-1 in his three starts in net, posting just a 3.67 GAA and a .876 save percentage.

Washington is coming off a 5-2 win in New Jersey last night to snap a two-game skid. The Capitals are now 3-1-1 on the season. Washington is putting 4 goals per game while allowing 2.80 per contest. Alex Ovechkin is off to a torrid start, as he has nine goals already and 10 points. Nicklas Backstrom and Evgeny Kuznetsov also each have 10 points. Braden Holtby is 3-1 in net in four starts with a 2.47 GAA and a .923 save percentage.

Bet on Capitals vs. Flyers

The Flyers get a chance to play at home for the first time this season, which should provide a nice boost. Philly will need it against this high-scoring Washington team. The Capitals have scored at least two goals in every game. They key will be for Holtby to keep the Flyers from finding the net. Odds are that he will, as his numbers have been solid. Philly doesn’t have the same kind of goalkeeping, so I look for the Capitals to score early and often.
